Saucer Magnolia (Magnolia x soulangiana)

Magnolia x soulangiana is a deciduous tree, 6m x 5m, with large, early-blooming flowers that appear before the leaves. Flowers are solitary, perfect, bell-shaped opening to 13-25 cm diameter, white to pink to purplish (outside petals often purplish).

A cross between M. denudata and M. liliiflora in 1820 and named for the breeder French plantsman Étienne Soulange-Bodin. Numerous forms have since been selected from this cross.

One of the most admired and widely used Magnolias known for its hardiness and adaptability to many garden styles.
