Apple ‘Lovejoy’s Lunch’ is a unique seedling apple with roots in Long Gully, Bendigo, where it once grew beside an old blacksmith's workshop in the Lovejoy family garden. The family loved the fruit so much that they took a cutting when they moved to Skipton—ensuring the variety lived on. Years later, we at Heritage Fruit Trees were lucky enough to taste it ourselves, and we were instantly taken with its flavour. Thanks to Ms Lovejoy’s generosity, we received grafting wood and began propagating this special tree.
While we’re still confirming its exact pollination group and harvest period, one thing is certain: ‘Lovejoy’s Lunch’ is a delicious apple and well worth growing. Its name honours the Lovejoy family for preserving this variety—and sharing it with us.
2025 Update: Ms Lovejoy now grows a grafted ‘Lovejoy’s Lunch’ in her new garden near Ballarat (see photo).
