Sunburst Cherry (Prunus avium ‘Sunburst’) is a popular self-pollinating sweet cherry producing very large, glossy dark red to almost black fruit with juicy flesh and excellent sweet flavour. Raised in Canada from a cross involving Stella, it is valued for its heavy cropping, reliable performance and attractive spring blossom. The fruit are softer than some commercial cherries but highly regarded for fresh eating straight from the tree. A vigorous and productive variety well suited to home orchards in temperate regions.

  • Uses: Eating fresh, desserts, cooking, preserving
  • Pollination: Self-pollinating (self-fertile); can assist pollination of other sweet cherries
  • Harvest: Mid season; December in southern Australia
  • Chill requirements: Suitable for temperate climates; moderate winter chill required
