Kuchibeni Japanese Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda 'Kuchibeni') is a vigorous deciduous climber with stems that twine clockwise.
Among the earliest wisterias to bloom. Produces long racemes up to 45 cm with pale lilac-pink, nicely scented flowers. A reliable and abundant flowerer year after year. Best grown on a pergola or as a standard to help shade the racemes and prolong their soft, beautiful colouring.
One of the best varieties for general cultivation. Listed in the late Peter Valder’s top 10 wisterias (1996), and recognised as best for pergolas, scent (musky), autumn colour, seed pods, and pale flower colour.
- Flowers: Pale lilac pink, early summer
- Size: To about 8 m tall x 4 m wide
- Uses: Ornamental vine perfect for adding shade or privacy. Train over a sturdy structure such as a pergola, along the edge of a verandah, up a wall, or as a bonsai.
