Thought to have originated in either New York or Connecticut, USA. Brought to notice in about 1844. A very large apple, although 20 ounces (approx 0.5kg) would be an exceptional example. Remained the premier cooking apple in its region of New York State for over a 100 years. A mild, clean, fresh taste accepted well by children.
