Coral Bark Maple (Acer palmatum 'Senkaki')
Coral Bark Maple (Acer palmatum 'Senkaki', also known as 'Sango kaku') lives up to its common name with bark of coral red very visible in winter. This attractive small deciduous tree has attractive dissected green leaves in summer that contrast with the red twigs and young branches underneath. In autumn, the leaves turn stunning oranges and yellows before falling to reveal the red bark underneath. Coral Bark Maple's size and ability to tolerate full sun to part-shade makes it a handy garden and landscape tree especially for small gardens. Prefers shelter from wind and soil that is well-drained, moist and slightly acid. Looks great as a specimen or when planted in groups.
