Pyrus communis 'Jargonelle' is a patriarch among pears, dating from about 1620's. It is an early ripener harvesting in late summer. Brownish skin with a red flush on the sunny face, flesh melting with a sweet musky flavour. Like most early pomme fruits it does not keep well and is best enjoyed while fresh. One of our favourite white blossoms!
Pear trees are known for their longevity, but Jargonelle has a particular reputation for being long-lived.
