Bouche de Bétizac is a hybrid between Castanea sativa and Castanea crenata developed in France in 1962 by Institut national de la recherche agronomique (INRA) at Malemort-sur-Corrèze near Brive. This is an early season variety producing large to very large chestnuts which are light chestnut-brown quickly turning brown and dark brown.
It is considered to have very good flavour and crops well averaging in commercial use 3 tonnes per ha.
