Blackcurrant fruit can be frozen, used in cakes and pies, cordials and many other uses. Plants tolerate very cold temperatures to minus 31 degrees C (not such an issue in Australia!) although frosts at flowering time can impact on fruit production. Plants are long lived (up to 50 years) although are often replaced after 10 years. Ensure plants have sufficient water in autumn when flower buds are being initiated.
